Ma Der Lao Kitchen, located in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District, is the brainchild of Chef Jeff Chanchaleune. His culinary journey has been nothing short of remarkable, introducing vibrant Laotian culture and flavors to the palates of Oklahoma City residents. Chef Jeff’s roots in the restaurant industry, alongside his chef father, laid the foundation for his passion. After operating an American diner, he ventured into Japanese cuisine, eventually opening Goro Ramen and Gun Izakaya. However, it was with Ma Der Lao Kitchen that he truly embraced his heritage, earning accolades such as being named one of Bon Appétit’s Best Restaurants of 2022, making the New York Times’ 50 Best Restaurants in America in 2022, and receiving James Beard semifinalist/finalist nominations in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Chef Jeff’s dedication to cooking Lao food and spreading its culture has put Oklahoma City on the culinary map!
